Remote Key Fob Not Working? The Fault May Be Smaller Than You Think

A remote key fob can stop working for several reasons, and not all of them mean the whole key needs to be replaced. Sometimes the issue is small, such as a weak battery or contact problem. In other cases the remote may have lost sync or suffered internal damage.

Check the basics first

If the battery was replaced recently, make sure it was fitted properly and that the contacts are clean and secure. A new battery does not always guarantee the problem is solved if the battery fit is poor or the remote casing is worn.

• The buttons work only at short range or only sometimes.
• The casing or button membrane is damaged.
• The remote stopped working after a battery change.
• The key still works mechanically, but the remote functions do not.

When programming may be needed
